OnePlus One Phone, You No Longer Need an Invite

The OnePlus One phone, known initially as much for its invitation-only purchase policy as for its unfortunate “ladies first” marketing misstep, is erasing one of these forever.

OnePlus announced that sales of its first and only smartphone currently available are finally open to everyone. That’s right, you no longer need a OnePlus One phone invite to purchase the phone.

With the announcement of open sales for the OnePlus One, the company has also revealed its newest phone, the OnePlus 2.

The names of these phones might be a little confusing, One being spelled out while the sequel phone from OnePlus uses the numeral 2. OnePlus did not give any further details about its new phone. However, the company did hint that the OnePlus 2 will initially launch as an invite-only purchase, just like the OnePlus One before it.

In the announcement on it’s official OnePlus Blog, the company explained:

“Our invite system has been a fascinating, evolving experiment. Within the community, feelings towards our invite system vary, and we understand that. The reality is that we wouldn’t be where we are today without it. But, as always, we are listening. Your feedback significantly alters our trajectory, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. Keep being loud, bold and honest; we’ll promise to do the same.”

You may be familiar with OnePlus One’s tagline as being “the flagship killer.” The One runs on a CyanogenMod OS based on Android 4.4. The phone also sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor with 2.5GHz Quad-Core CPUs and 3GB of RAM.

The OnePlus One will cost you $299 for the 16GB model and the 64GB comes with a price tag of $349. Carriers for the OnePlus One are limited, so if you are interested, you will have to check with your service provider.
